Rick
Sweitzer

In 1993 Rick Sweitzer created, organized and co-guided the first
ever dogsled and ski expedition to the North Pole for amateur adventurers.
Since then he has guided nearly 100 people to the North and South
Poles. His role as executive director of PolarExplorers
keeps him very involved in annual polar logistics and expeditions
that span the globe.
Rick's interest in adventure started early and was fed by service
in Ghana with the Peace Corps. Upon return he founded The Northwest
Passage, an adventure travel company which guides trips around the
world. He soon began to think seriously about the prospects of taking
a group of amateur adventurers to the North Pole. In 1992 he assembled
a team of adventurous individuals and teamed with Paul
Schurke of Wintergreen
Dogsled Lodge to guide the unprecedented expedition. Since then
he has guided over a dozen North & South Pole adventures.
